What is FISP?
FISP is the Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention. This organization provides educational programs to police, EMS, teachers, students, clubs, community organizations and their staff members in order to teach people about the signs and what to look for, to help stop suicide in the state of Florida and nationally. Along with educational programs, FISP also offers support for survivors of suicide loss. This includes but is not limited to support groups for adults and teens, referral services, survivor packages, survivor conferences, and phone support.
FISP is active with the community through prevention programs. One example of this is the HOPE Sunshine after school club. This club is approved by the Broward County School Board and is accessible to middle, high school, and college students.
FISP – Suicide Prevention Programs:
The HOPE Sunshine after school club is approved by the Broward County School Board for an entire school year curriculum engaging middle, high school and college students. HOPE’s mission is to “Help Overcome Problems Effectively.” This club meets weekly and hosts a variety of annual events at each school that has a HOPE Sunshine Club.
Another program that FISP is involved with is the SUN program. “Solutions Unlimited Now” (SUN) is a program that assists teems, college students, seniors, injured adults and teens, as well as mothers recovering from addiction.
Amongst its activity within the schools and programs, Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention is also involved in a research partnership with Nova Southeastern University so that gather the data and information needed to help bring this cause nation wide and to further stop suicide on a national scale.
